When does the 2026 Inca Trail open?
Reservations for the 2026 Inca Trail will open in October 2025 through the official platform: www.inkatrail.com.pe. From that date, authorized operators will be able to register travelers.
Important note: Approximately 500 people are allowed entry each day, of which only 200 are tourists and the rest are guides, porters, and support staff.
Important Rules and Notices
- Reservations can only be made through the official platform or through authorized agencies.
- Tour operators must have valid licenses and updated documentation.
- During the rainy season (November to March), the following will apply:
- Constant weather monitoring.
- Possible temporary closures announced 24 hours in advance.
- Reinforced safety protocols at campsites and at risky sections.
- Each group has a maximum of 16 people, including guides, cooks, and porters.
- Permits are personal and non-transferable: they cannot be changed or resold.
Types of routes available for the 2026 Inca Trail opening
- Classic Inca Trail (4 days / 3 nights): the most famous route, which culminates with the arrival at Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate (Inti Punku).
- Short Inca Trail (2 days / 1 night): a shorter option, ideal for those with less time but still want to experience part of the trail.
Tips to secure your spot in 2026
- Book 6 to 8 months in advance, especially if you’re traveling during peak season.
- Check your passport’s validity: it must be valid for at least 6 months upon entry.
- If you can’t find a spot, consider alternative routes such as the Salkantay Trek, Lares Trek, or Choquequirao Trek, which don’t require limited permits.
- Avoid scams: Always book with authorized operators.
